East Hills Girls Technology High School Alumni Redesign
East Hills Girls Technology High school is a public secondary school in South West Sydney. The school was established in 1953 with 288 students made up of First and Second year girls. Today the school has over 800 students that caters to girls from years 7 to 12 with a focus on Technology. It is the only Girls Technology School in the state.
I had pleasure of redesigning the school alumni logo with the assistance of fellow alumnus Alison Baston and Olga KB. The original logo was designed by Mrs Necyporuk with the establishment of the Alumni in 2002. It featured the Gymea Lily, a representation of what is high, lofty and distinguished.
Since then the alumni has been looking to grow and encourage more active participation. The alumni approached us to redesign the school alumni brand to reenergise the club. The aim is to attract more young women to join the alumni and encourage an active and diverse community. With this in mind the brief was to create an identity that is modern, fresh and inviting.
I looked at the period in which the school was established and wanted to pay homage to technology aspect of East Hills Girls Technology High School. The concept behind the logo is based off Biomorphism, a trendin 1950s mid-century design that explores new materials and technologies to create free-form shapes said to mimic biological organisms. It seemed like a fitting way to evolve the Gymea Lily and technology together.
With the assistance of Ally and Olly we presented three executions to the Alumni.
The Alumni chose the execution of the organic letter shapes. They loved the pop of colour and the way it was put together; a colourful reminder of the new, modern direction we are trying to establish for the Alumni.
In the coming months we look to roll out the rest of the branding with this new concept and logo. We hope this redesign will present an opportunity to have a thriving community of support with chances to network, mentor, volunteer and to stay connected and up to date. So watch this space.
