Biomorphism in Graphic Design

Biomorphism is an art form that takes cues from nature and living organisms. It features free-form shapes of rounded edges and sensual curves.

I stumbled across this down a research rabbit hole for a branding project. I found heaps of examples of these in art, architecture and industrial design.

Cloud Shepherd, Jean Arp (1953), Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas
TWA Flight Center, Eero Saarinen and Associates (1962)
Prototype for Chaise Longue, Charles Eames, Ray Eames (1948)

In graphic design, not so much. So I figured I’d curate a tiny collection here of what I thought was biomorphic visual design.

Mushroom Pen Drawing, Anna Šebestová
Red Coral, Julie Marie Design
Abstract 2 in 1 Collection, Noi Minggu
Komorebi, Bron Alexander
Matisse Inspired Floral Print, Patryk Krygowski
Mohawk Maker Quarterly 15, Hybrid Design
Collage it! Lera Efremova
Garden Museum, Pentagram
Herman Miller x Wade and Leta Holiday Campaign 2019, Wade and Leta
Daily render in Adobe Dimension — Biomorphism 20181124, Anna Natter

And a couple a books for visual inspiration. I haven’t actually read these but these dudes, the authors and publishers seems reputable and know what they are talking about.

Mid-century Modern, Here Design
Moderns: Midcentury American Graphic Design, Steven Heller and Greg D’Onofrio

Anyone have more examples?
